Summary on Grant Application Form
It is becoming apparent that achieving broadband access to the Internet for the majority of the UK population is of growing economic and political importance. Fixed wireless access permits operators in a competitive environment to deploy broadband services in timely andcost effective manner will also enable developing countries to leap a complete technological generation. The aim of this project is to increase the capacity and throughl achievable by broadband fixed wireless access (BFWA) networks such that competitiveness with wired systems is maintained. The initial step is investigate realistic channel modelling in order to mathematically recreat the BFWA radio channel within a computer simulation. This model will b verified in conjunction with measurements made in collaboration with Cambridge Broadband Limited. The next step is to propose and investigate various novel space-time coding systems combined with equalisation. This will be achieved with the aid of extensive computer simulations of BF systems. Finally a theoretical framework and an implementation feasibility study will be conducted.
