Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of the project is to both develop and unify the range of theoretical tools available for the modelling of travel choices and transport networks. There will be three main research areas: (i) Travel Decision Models, including studies of survey methods, estimation methods and decision philosophies; (ii) Networks & Collective Systems, including specification/aggregation and supply-demand interactions; and (iii) Appraisal & the Actors, incorporating appraisal techniques, and the response of the actors that control the transport system. Five cross-cutting themes-dynamics, uncertainty, aggregation, philosophy of science and transferability-have been identified to run through the research areas. The Platform Grant will be the means to provide stability to, and act as a focus for, an existing modelling research group, coordinating activities in order to achieve this long term research goal, supporting a range of research studies and activities, and interactions with other leading modelling groups and model-users, internationally.
