|
PAMELA will establish a robust microscopic simulation model which is able to incorporate personal characteristics of individual pedestrians and thus per extensive modelling of pedestrian accessibility and movement. This will be achieved by means of: (1) the enhancement of an existing pedestrian simulation model which has the capability of including characteristics of individual pedestrians; (2) the collection of a wide range of statistics of particular relevance pedestrian movement and accessibility, aimed to (i) provide suitably detailed input data for the work in enhancing the simulation model and (ii) provide a b database for use by national and international bodies for design and other statistical purposes; and (3), in order to obtain these data and to develop, calibrate and validate the simulation model, the development of a comprehensive laboratory facility in which pedestrian accessibility and movement can be observe under rigorously controlled conditions, tested and analysed. The laboratory aims to provide good representations of pedestrian environments including the effects of changes in gradient, surface type and colour, lighting, layout of obstacles and pedestrian infrastructure and other barriers as required. The sim model will be tested for its ability to represent conditions beyond the capability of the laboratory (e.g. combinations of circumstances which have been tea the laboratory). A stratified sample of people based on their various abilities will be obtained to ensure inclusion of as wide a range of abilities as possible project.
