We propose to hold a meeting entitled Non-commutative trends in arithmetic: developments and perspectives in non-commutative number theory . The meeting will have two main components: first, a review of recent achievements in non-commutative number theory; and second, concerning future interactions between number theory and other branches of mathematics, especially from mathematical physics, which look to be of great importance for the future of the subject.It is becoming increasingly evident that a substantial amount of future progress in number theory will result from the appropriate development and application of new methods and concepts deriving from other parts of mathematics, especially from mathematical physics. This trend has already been very noticeable in a number of other branches of pure mathematics such as algebraic geometry, topology, differential geometry, and analysis. Our meeting will be the first conference which will systematically review and discuss possible interactions between number theory and other branches of mathematics from the point of view of such new developments.
