Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Cambridge part of the overall PUMA Programme is aimed at the unsteady aerodynamic simulation of real Harren on JSF type aircraft configurations for both ground effect and STOVL transition regimes. Initial work will extend current industry CFD capabilities for fixed simple representative geometries by utilitising the Cambridge solution adoptive grids for moving objects, and full usnteady RANS methods. Subsequent work will extend computations in ground effect to LES and, use adoptive RANS-to-LES for the transition phase CAD-to-MESH geometry handling will then be employed to extend the same capability to the full 3D complexity of real applications. Collaborating partners at Loughborough and Sussex Universities will provide nexessary additional input on handling the computation of hot gas ingestion, and variable speed flow regimes with a single domain, respectively. The intention is therefore to move on from the current building block simulation state of the art they have helped establish to a point where present necessary extensive test rigs can be reproduced by using far XXXXX parallel PC cluser CFD computations linked to a full 3D molicu output display.
