Summary on Grant Application Form
The identification of dynamical systems is increasingly becoming standard practice in every branch of engineering that deals with vibrating structure Nonlinearity affects to different degrees all of the applications of system identification. Currently, the identification of nonlinear dynamical systems is at a preliminary stage, despite the large number of proposed methods, since none of these methods is paradigmatic. The aim of this project is to develop an expert system that will detect and quantify the nonlinearity present in a given dynamical system and, subsequently, determine and apply most suitable nonlinear system identification method. To this end, a comparative evaluation of a large number of such methods will be carried out ft first time. This comparison will be performed on a number of simulated benchmark systems, specifically developed for this task. The results of this evaluation will suggests which methods are most suitable to which class of problem. These suggestions will be used as the basis for an expert syst that will be able to detect, quantify and characterize the nonlinearities present in a system, determine the most suitable identification method(s), apply them and deliver a full identified mathematical model of the given system along with an estimate of the degree of confidence in the resulting model. expert system will be validated on a number of benchmark experimental systems representing real problems from a number of engineering industries
