Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will develop an architecture for networking monitoring that will allow detailed monitoring at both current and future GRID network speeds. A combination of real time and off-line processing will be used to reduce the captured data to a manageable volume while retaining all the detail necessary to infer the behaviour of high-level protocols. In parallel, a suite of analysis tools will be developed to reconstruct end-system protocol state based on the traces, and hence track interactions between the different protocol layers. Statistical analysis of the inferred behaviour will enable application-level Quality of Service to be estimated. This project is an important enabling technology, researching into the fundamental tools whose use will provide crucial input to many other research opportunities both in the GRID and in other networks.
