Summary on Grant Application Form |
The national consortium brings together key players in the Uk to make available a wide range of techniques for fabrication and test of a range of highly innovative carbon based devices. It encompasses displays to power devices, MEM's to low cost electronics, and sensors to solar cells. the proposal covers devices made from a wide range of conjugated polymers, oligomers and organic molecules as well as the various forms of carbon: a-C, diamond, and nanotubes. The attainment of devices in materials which have high carrier mobilites and low densities of traps is the major focus of the work.Sussex will be producing bulk amounts of aligned carbon nanotubes and N-doped carbon nanotubes. The materials will be used for carrying out the objectives mentioned above. In order to control the nanotube length and chirality, Sussex will work on elucidating the growth mechanisms wherby nanotubes grow. The succesful development of these objectives will guarantee the controlled growth of nanotube and the fabrication of novel carbon based elements.
