A Human Behaviour in Fire Network (HUBFIN) will be established and developed over three years into a self-sustaining research network, to provide a much needed forum for academics, practictioners, industrialists and policy makers with interests in Human Behaviour in Fire . HUBFIN will draw on available but widely dispersed expertise and will co-ordinate the development and implementation of a strategic human behaviour in fire research programme. The network will organise a series of research workshops and exchanges as well as meetings focused on industrial liaison and methods of sharing best practice, the proceedings of which will be published and posted in HUBFIN's and members web pages. For each research area, working parties will be formed and tasked with developing collaborative research proposals. The prime means of communcation for HUBFIN will be via its web site which will be established at the outset of the project. The network will be managed by an executive committee. Meetings of HUBFIN will be planned to coincide with the workshops as well as meetings of the working groups. The work of HUBFIN will map onto national and international development in relation to Human Behaviour in Fire Science and performance based design, ie, BSI, ISO, CIB and CEN. A coherent cohesive human behaviour fire science research strategy will be produced which will generate quality but relevant research proposals for submission to funding agencies. The proposed network will provide a vital coherent organisational focus to speak with a unified strategic voice and facilitate the necessary links between the research resource, industry and government. Recent events bear out the need for, and immediate focus of, HUBFIN.
