Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will combine the expertise of Berzins and Bunge in state of the art adaptive numerical solution techniques for solving PDEs and in skin structure and physiology as the initial phase in a long-term collaboration for making scientifically defensible predictions of the rate and extent of den absorption from exposure to chemicals in a variety of media such as water, solvents, airs solids and powders. The generation of realistic anisotropic tetrahedral meshes and the use of transient adaptive mesh algorithms already used in Leeds will form the basis for a prototype solver for this class problems. At the same time algorithmic work will be undertaken at Leeds to consider the computational issues in ensuring that physically realistic solutions are computed on the meshes needed for the anisotropic diffusion . The initial prototype code and algorthmic studies will form the basis for development of future codes and studies for the realistic computational modelling of the dermal absorption of chemicals through skin.
