Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project involves the development and application of novel systematic coarse-graining procedures to derive, from an underlying microscopic description, the macroscopic fluid dynamics equations in the presence of phase-ordering kinetics with associated scaling laws. The coarse-graining contraction takes the description of these systems through a mesoscopic realm, intermediate between atomistic and macroscopic length and time scales and is actually a form of renormalisation scheme. Our models will provide quantitative predictions of induction times, metastability, relaxation times and scaling solutions, all of which can be compared with experimental measurements to form detailed descriptions of the kinetics complex soft condensed matter systems.
