Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will explore the possibility of membrane reactors in which organometallic catalysts are used in monophasic mixtures of ionic liquids and organic solvents.Post-reaction separation of the ionic liquid from organic solvent+ product will be via nanofiltration. If successful this novel approach will (i) provide a new technique for post-reaction ionic liquid separation; (ii) make feasible the use of ionic liquid-organic solvent mixtures as monophasic reaction systems, with lower viscosities and fewer constraints on solvent choice; (iii) allow ubiquitous and less expensive ionic liquids such as quaternary onium salts to be more widely employed ; (iv) enable facile (semi) continuous operation.
