Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to improve current approaches to representing the appearance of a 3D geometric model acquired from a set of photographs. Current methods of representation are either physics-based or image-based models of the surface. These perform well with a dense set of samples of the surface such as one might get in a laboratory, but perform poorly with a sparse set of photographs such as one is likely to get in any practical situation. We propose to investigate a hybrid feature-based method that we evaluate with a metric of human visual perception, rather than physics, and hence is likely to appear to perform better with sparse source image sampling.
