Summary on Grant Application Form |
Professor Randall is the head of the Centre for Dielectric Studies at the Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) at Pennsylvania Sate University USA. He is a world expert in the field of dielectric and piezoelectric ceramics and he has expressed an interest in collaborating with the University of Sheffield and other electroceramics groups in the UK during the summer of 2002. During his stay he will contribute to three areas of research: 1) conductivity mechanisms and defect chemstry of BaTi03 based capacitors, 2) structure-property relations in microwave ceramics and 3) structural investigations across the morhotropic phase boundary in Bi(Me)03 - PbTi03 solid solutions. He has extensively published in all three of these area and holds several patents relating to their commercial exploitation. Professor Randall will be based at Sheffield where he will use the high resolution and analytical electron microscopes available at the Sorby Centre for Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis and impedance spectroscopy. He will visit several other electroceramics groups in the UK including those of Prof A.J. Bell at University of Leeds and Prof R.W. Whatmore at the University of Cranfield where he will give seminars based on his research at MRL
