Summary on Grant Application Form |
Computational models and methods that have been developed for understanding synchronisation and propagation phenomena in heart muscle will be adapted and applied to the gravid uterus. Models of uterine smooth muscle and uterine anatomy will be constructed , used to explore the quantitative effects of changes in excitability and cell-to-cell coupling, and validated against published results and clinical data that are being recorded at Leeds. We anticipate identifying measures of electrical activity that will identify and predict the onset of labour, and quantify some dysfunctions
