Summary on Grant Application Form |
This research will help to pioneer a new form of tomographic imaging exploiting advanced radar technology. The project will consider, for the first time, the application of high-speed electromagnetic pulses (~100 ps) in combined transmission/reflectance modes to interrogate water based objects. This work will investigate the fundamental limitations of the technique, such as spatial/contrast resolutions. For simple object geometries, millimetre resolution should be possible (object space ~ 1 m) although in practice pulse dispersion mechanisms will reduce this, There are exciting biomedical and industrial applications if the promise of this tomographic mode can be realised.
