Summary on Grant Application Form |
Photoinduced ion signal transduction will be explored: a pulse light will be used to create a pu;lse of metal ions in solution, and this project will explore the use of such ion pulses to effect other changes in multi-component mixtures ( i.e to transduce the ion signal ). Molecules of the generic structure (bpy)(CO)3Re(dye-azacrown), which have recently been shown by the applicant to act as light-controlled ion switches, will be studied along with a range of metal cations. A detailed understanding of the mechanisms will be developed through a range of steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques.
