Summary on Grant Application Form |
DAPPLE provides the opportunity for the demand responsive controlled area of Marylebone in central London to be set up as an urban laboratory for simultaneous monitoring of traffic, air pollutants, noise and meteorological conditions. The Instrumented City data capture and on-line processing will be installed in a computer in the City of London traffic control centre. This automatically captured traffic data will processed and stored with the survey data in the iC database in a consistent way. The quality assurance methods, statistical analysis processes, congestion detection and emissions algorithms will be transferred to London and used to support the other elements of the DAPPLE research. Through CIOSE collaboration of the multidisciplinary research group of the Centre for Urban Pollution for Transport (CUPT) and that of DAPPLE, integrated survey data collection methodologies and co-ordinated research activities will result in significant mutual benefits and reduced costs. This will be facilitat( with RA study visits of typically 5 days duration in the partner universities, regular workshops, research meetings and by co-ordinating network ar dissemination activities. Finally CUPT will use the London urban laboratory for demonstrating transferability of models and DAPPLE will use thos( set up in CUPT in Leeds and Leicester.
