Summary on Grant Application Form
The research aims to manufacture fully dense3D metallic components in one single step using an innovative process. The work includes upgrading the current COz laser in our Sinterstation to a slightly higher power as suggested by previous trials so that it can melt powders such as Ti and H13 alloys direcfr and to modify the optics and some parts in the machine to accommodate the higher laser power. After such modifications, 3D metallic components should be able to be built using a rapid prototyping machine(ft can still be used for building polymer component) by melting consecutively added layers of metallic powder (without coating or mixing of resin) from a CAD fife. The processing conditions for manufacturing of components with defined geometries will be established.
