Summary on Grant Application Form |
The immediate objective of this research is to develop a unified theory of materials with defects. The unification that we propose concerns the theory of continuous distribution of dislocations, and a structurally based theory of defective crystals. Points of contact between the two theories are to be investigated, and the range of each of the theories is to be extended so as to allow more extensive comparisons and developments (of both theories). The long term goal is to be able to interpret phenomenological plasticity in terms of the mechanics of rearrangement of distributions of defects.
