Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal presents the case for JREI funding (24323) for an automated coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to facilitate mufti-project collaborative research within the School of Engineering at the University of Durham in the specific research areas of bioengineering, turbomachinery and vehicle aerodynamics. The proposal is externally financially supported (5000) by two industrial collaborators and internally supported by the host University. In addition to the identified research, it is envisaged that the acquisition of the CMM will be of direct benefit to a variety of existing and future research projects carried out within the School of Engineering. The proposal is consistent with the aims of the JREI scheme in that the provision of the CMM will contribute directly to the physical research infrastructure of the University of Durham. The proposers believe that the specified CMM system and the broad applicability of the equipment to the School as a whole represent good value for money. Further, the research areas to which the equipment will be applied, namely bioengineering and vehicle aerodynamics, are recognised Foresight areas of strategic importance.
