Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will investigate whether multiscale, multiphysics computational modelling is applicable to the interdisciplinary field of fabrication and in-service performance of cast titanium dental prosthetics. The feasibiliy of the determining factors affecting performance by modelling each stage of the lifecycle of the prosthetic will be explored. First, the solidification microstructure of the casting, including chemical reactions that occur between the highly reactive melt and the mould will be predicted. Then, the feasibility of including the influence of the final microstructure and compostion on the degradation and bioactivity of the surface and surrounding tissues will be determined.
