Summary on Grant Application Form |
We have recently reported the first enantioselective synthesis of an axially chiral calixarene. The objective of this project is to capitalise on this discovery by (i) design and synthesis of new chiral non-racemic calix(4) resorcinarenes; (ii) study of the complexation phenomena of suitably derivatized chiral calixarenes, for example with transition metal ions; (iii) investigation of their chemistry and assessment of their potential as asymmetric homogeneous catalysts; and (iv) preparation of new chiral materials by immobilization of appropriately functionalized axially chiral calix [4] resorcinarenes on polymer, metal oxide and other solid supports, for potential use in a range of applications involving chiral recognition phenomena, for example chiral chromatography.
