Summary on Grant Application Form |
Vector bundles on algebraic curves form an important area of research in algebraic geometry, especially because of theiir links with other areas of mathematics, including topology, differential geometry and representation theory, and with theoretical physics. In studying the moduli spaces which help to classify these bundles, one is led to consider certain canonically defined bundles on these spaces, known as Picard bundles, and to study the ways in which they can be deformed. The two proposed VFs have worked on this problem in collaboration with eachother ans with other researchers including me. The purpose of this proposal is to extend this work through a period of intensive face-to-face research. The basic techniques required are already in place, namely Hecke transformations and the Leray spectral sequence. We propose to develop tese further as needed in order to solve a range of deformation problems for Picard bundles. We also plan to look more generally at Picard sheaves and at the corresponding problem in the derived category.
