Summary on Grant Application Form |
The chemistry of silylenes (two-valent and two-coordinate silicon species) plays a major role in organosilicon chemistry, which in turn is of considerable importance both in synthesis and industrial applications. Only in recent years was the long sought breakthrough for the synthesis of thermally stable silylenes achieved. Since then a range of new reactions was discovered and the synthesis of stable base-free silylene-transition metal complexes was realised for the first time. The proposal for this project sets out to make a significant contribution in the field of silylene-transition metal complexes. With the isolation of stable silylenes a wide range of stable base-free silytene-metal compounds will be available and the chemistry of those complexes is expected to grow fast in the next few years. Very little is known about the catalytic activity of stable silylene-transition metal complexes and the results from this proposal will provide a ground basis for further studies in this field. The project will be a significant contribution to organosilicon chemistry and will extend the boundaries of low-valent silicon species.
