|
We are seeking to upgrade the University of London School of Pharmacy's NMR service, which at present comprises AM500MHz and AM250M spectrometers. It is proposed to replace the exisiting consoles with the new Bruker AVANCE instrumentation with additional software, data-handling capability and probes.The upgrade of the 500MHz machine will include the provision of a third digital channel which will give access to C-H-X experiments necessary for the structure elucidation of macromolecules. Both instruments will have the ability to perform gradient-assisted spectroscopy which will enhance the School's ability to acquire high resolution data rapidly and aid in the acquisition of spectra on small amounts of biologically active materials.It is proposed to retain the existing magnets and the School has in place an annual budget for their running and maintainance costs. We therefore believe that an upgrade is the most cost effective and competitive solution for the service. A maintenance contract is included in the proposal and will also support the continued effective running of the service.The upgrade is essential if we are to maintain our RAE 5 rating in research excellence in the Pharmaceutical Sciences.
