Summary on Grant Application Form |
Recent research at Newcastle on phase relationships in the Dy-Si-Al-O-N system (9) has shown that betweent he structurally analogous cuspidene-type compounds J-phase (dy(4)Si(2)O(7)N(2) and Dy-YAM (Dy(4)A(2)O(9), the previously-supposed line of continuous solid solution bwetween them is in fact broken up into 5 slightly different cuspidine structural modeifications at different compositions inthe range. Moreover, Shimada and colleagues (3-8) have shown that the end member and several related analogues have low and high-temperature strucural forms, both of the cuspidene tupe for which the lower temperature form has the higher volume.
