Summary on Grant Application Form
Dr. Zheng's expertise lies in the development of software, include MT3D, one of the most commonly used transport simulation packages. With Dr. Zheng we intend to explore hypotheses about the nature of natural attenuation, by incorporating and testing the conceptual models within the MT3DMS/RT3D software family. Data is available from two sites: '4 Ashes' and 'Rexco', which differ in degradation patterns and reflect the complexity of natural attenuation processes.Together with Dr. Zheng we will model specific processes which up to now are not included in the MT3DMS/RT3D software family, but might be necessary to properly describe the field site data. This would also include simulation of advanced pumping schemes to enhance natural attenuation witl forced plume mixing by pumping and re-injection wells.
