Summary on Grant Application Form |
A U.K.-based FIB Network will be established as a forum for the synergistic transfer of FIB technology and scientific ideas between academic FIB users, industrial users and FIB system suppliers. The network will aim to pin-point, develop and exploit the most exciting scientific and technological applications of FIB for nanoprocessing and the analysis of nanomaterials, particularly in the three key areas of (i) nanofabrication, (ii) microstructural analysis of nanomaterials, and (iii) novel instrumental and technique development. The new scientific collaborations arising from the Nework will ensure the more effective exploitation of FIB technology in UK research, significantly improving UK industrial competitiveness and growth. The FIB Network will be set up as a dynamical communication channel between members. This will be realised, by Network activities focusing on (i) a pro-active FIB web-site, (ii) regular scientific meetings to establish and encourage collaborative links, (iii) collaborative visits between Network members, and (iv) the establishment of joint interdisciplinary research programmes and research grant submissions. All of these activities will link young U.K. scientific researchers working in the growing FIB nanotechnology field more closely to UK industry, broadening their scientific and technological skills.
