Summary on Grant Application Form |
A lattice Boltzmann model of phase separation and flow in a mixture of nematic and isotropic fluids will be developed. The scheme will generate a surface of tension between the two fluids and introduce orientational ordering of the nematic phase at the fluid-fluid boundary. The algorithm will be validated to establish that it recovers correct hydrodynamic behaviour and be used to study a variety of physical properties including a) phase morphology in the presence of aligning bulk and surface fields b) nematic droplets in various flow geometries c) the effect of bulk and surface ordering fields on flow.
