Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project focuses on a field emission device (FED) design that employs a novel cold cathode emitter structure that uses synthetic diamond along withrelated materials as the 'active' electron emitting material. A non-standard deposition technique involving use of ink jet printing technology, researched bySmiths, will be developed further by the University of Bath as the means to pattern diamond particle layers into pixel emitter cathode array structures. Anovel piezoelectric ink jet head will be studied to prevent the colgging of the ink jet nozzle and to improve the resolution. Driver electrodes and surfacetreatment of the FED devices will be carried out by a novel dual ion beam system recently installed in Bath Unversity. Field emission tests will besystematically studied to correlate the structure, design and materials.
