Summary on Grant Application Form |
Imaging of either photon or electron images can proceed via multi-channel plate intensity enhancement and phosphor conversion to optical detectors. Current weaknesses of these instruments do not allow sensing of high frequency oscillatory signal intensities. The proposal therefore addresses alternative methods of fast recording for the two dimensional position information in the image plane, including several novel ways of gaining X,Y or r,cp data. Direct input into a fibre faceplate should offer tighter and faster signal centroid positioning. Optical waveguiding is proposed to link common positional parameters. The target objectives here are for modulation frequencies up to MHz. although in principle the approach could offer faster responses. The design objectives include an electron enrgy and direction imaging spectrometer, plus alternative ways of signal encoding and processing. Whilst the initial objective is for monitoring electrons within a space plasma the overall advances will be much more idely applicable. Exploitation of these opportunities are planned via our UK industrial collaborators.
