Summary on Grant Application Form |
Within Scotland, we have a rich range of languages in use: while the majority speak English or Scottish English, there are also speakers of Scots, Gaelic, other Indo-European languages, such as Polish and Italian, and non-Indo-European languages such as those of China and the Indian subcontinent. This proposal is designed to meet the needs of at least some of these groups for electronic data, and tools to search them, and to provide a framework for future development of a comprehensive corpus. It will draw on the language engineering expertise of the Edinburgh Language Technology Group, and on the resources and linguistic expertise available from the Scottish National Dictionary Association (SNDA) in Edinburgh and the School of English and Scottish Language and Literature (SESLL) in Glasgow.
