Summary on Grant Application Form |
The retail sector is a large and vital part of our economy and of the urban and regional system, yet is neglected by Research Council initiatives. It is also a fast-changing and dynamic complex system, which faces ongoing competitive opportunities and strategic threats. The recent Competition Commission Inquiry into Grocery Retailing identified that the retail sector is enormously data rich, yet analysis poor. This is part of a two-pronged feasibility study (the companion application focuses on supply side considerations) to develop new data models of retail systems, with the objective of enabling retailers and planners to respond to change in the retail system.
