Summary on Grant Application Form |
This research plans to test the feasibility of a strategic supply chain positioning process for use in the first instance by first tier suppliers to OEMs in UK manufacturing industry. The methodology proposed uses a workshop process to develop a three dimensional picture of the competitive space of the organisation. The three key dimensions are the vertical, horizontal and infrastructural integration. The research will explore the notion that superior strategic decisions can be made if the three dimensions are addressed in an integrated fashion rather than sequentially and incrementally. The process is intended to have substantial value for strategic and future scenario planning. The feasibility study will test the usability and usefulness of such a process in preparation for its further development and exploitation. If the feasibility establishes the utility of the concept, a wide scale research programme will be proposed to develop a robust, widely applicable process.
