Summary on Grant Application Form |
A combined modelling and experimental study is proposed, which will have four parallel areas of research of equal import:The development of an (FE) based model to describe the elasto-plasitc behaviour and residual stress profile of a surface subjected to repeated, partial and completely overlapping shot impact. The experimental validation of the elasto-plastic impact model based on impact energy and residual stress measurement. The development of a particle dynamics model for a stream of shot combined with the FE based elasto-plastic impact model. This will predict the residual stress profile of a plane or curved shot peeved surface. The validation of the 'shot peeving' model with a stream of shot based on experimental data for shot peeved flat and curved surfaces.Based on this work, optimisation routines for shot peeving will be developed for use by industry.
