|
A series of organic bases (pyridines, guanidines and arylimino-trisaminophosphoranes) of know pKa will be used to de-protonate calix[4]-,calix[6]- and calix[8]- arenes in MeCN. The pKa1,pKa2,etc values for the calixarenes will be determined from these experiments using a spectroscopic method; it is estimated that the first 3 or 4 values for each calixarene can be determined. The work will be extended to THF, and computational studies will interpret the results in terms of conformation.
