Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research programme is derived from the highly successful studies performed by the PI and co-workers on the interactions of UV photons and electrons with ozone and chlorine oxides in the gas phase and recently complemented by the first studies of electron impact on oxygen layers absorbed on a cold (10K) copper surface. It is now proposed to develop these studies by performing four experiments to investigate molecular synthesis by neutral atom/molecule-molecule interactions in/on cold thin films:1. Electron and photon induced isomerization in a pure OCIO film.2. Electron and photon induced isomerization of OCIO absorbed on an ice film.3. Electron and photon induced ozone formation in a condensed oxygen layer.4. Electron and photon induced ozone formation in a condensed oxygen layer placed on an ice surface.
