Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project is to test a new concept in polymerisation catalysis, the control of catalyst reactivity by means of a second (non-active) metal centre. Ligand-mediated interaction between inactive metal and the catalytically active site will be employed to tune catalyst activity with minimal disturbance of the steric parameters. New bimetallic complexes based on oxamide ligands carrying bulky N-aryl substituents will be synthesised, where the active site will be based on the diazadiene motif that has proved highly successful in nickel and palladium catalysts. The potential of the new catalysts is to be tested in l-alkene copolymerisations with polar monomers.
