Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal represents a request for a short extension to a previously funded EPSRC grant (GR/L75290). The extension will allow completion of the original objectives of the grant. This has become necessary due to problems relating to the technician originally appointed to the grant whose work was extremely unreliable and has resulted in a considerable proportion of the data generated at the beginning of the project being unusable. The project is back on track with the appointment of a high calibre technician, but the time available is currently insufficient to recover the time lost during the period of appointment of the original technician. The extension requested will permit employment of the PDRA for a period of 6 months. In this period, the technically and intellectually demanding generation and analysis of molecular data from experiments that have been unavoidably set back will be conducted. The exciting observations we have made recently, are beginning to shed light on the factors that underly the complex dynamics of bacterial populations in activated sludge. 'This short grant will provide the opportunity to reap the maximum benefit from this work by facilitating the generation of a comprehensive data set and rigorous analysis of the data generated.
