Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this proposal is to develop an innovative software tool to assess the most appropriate public transport technology (or technologies) for particular urban and inter urban corridors. This tool would assist in making informed choices from the wide range of public transport options now available so as to select options that are safe, efficient, clean and fair. In addition a manual of advice, entitled The Supply of Public Transport will be produced. The methodology will involve a literature review, 10 field studies of bus-based (including guided bus) and rail based (including light rail) alternatives and a detailed case study of the Witney-Oxford-Cowley corridor. The software tool will involve a spreadsheet model interfaced with network models are likely to be based on VIPS/3 and SATURN models. Collaboration has been obtained from three industrial partners (GTE for Oxfordshire Ltd, Go-Ahead Group plc and Mott MacDonald).
