This project will concentrate on the transferability of these schemes to the Forest of Dean area and will seek to assess the feasibility of implementing similar initiatives within the district in the future as well as the scale of resulting benefits to the young unemployed within the area. Initially, the project will investigate the existing market for each of three schemes currently in operation. It will also investigate the extent to which each of the projects has improved access to training and employment opportunities in the case study areas and use this information to forecast the impact of introduction of similar schemes in other rural areas. The first stage of the project will produce a market analysis of the 3 initiatives and develop a market model. It will also produce a socio-economic model estimating benefits of the scheme in terms of reducing unemployment and increasing access to training. The models will provide useful information for service providers and policy-makers. The second phase of the project will identify areas within Gloucestershire with poor access to training and employment opportunities. It will generate a methodology for identifying areas with poor access that will be transferable to other rural counties and can be used by development agencies and local authorities. The final phase of the project will assess the transferability of initiatives studied to the Forest.
