Summary on Grant Application Form |
Advanced Pure Mathematical research on proof theory, the main underlying theme being the role of Large Cardinals (more accurately their constructive analogues) in the ordinal analysis of strong theories. Progress on objective 1 in particular would be of major importance, but the other objectives too would be of technical significance to the field in general. The work would employ an interesting mixture of ideas and techniques from proof theory, set theory and recursion theory. The investigators, together with the proposed RA, would form a unique team with complementary expertise, well-equipped to tackle the high-level problems outlined. The joint research would progress collaboratively and simultaneously across 2 or 3 of the main objectives at anyone time. A weekly research seminar would focus and guide the research effort. The nature of Pure Mathematical research makes it impossible to give a precise work plan and timing of events.
