Summary on Grant Application Form |
The Isaac Newton Institute (the UK's National Research Institute of the Mathematical sciences) runs long-term visitor research programmes on a wide range of cutting-edge interdisciplinary topics, where mathematics has a fundamental and seminal sole to play. Contacts between UK researchers and international experts are enabled and strengthened. Two examples are the forthcoming 4-month programmes entitled Geometry and topology of Fluid Flows and From individual to Collective Behaviour in Biological Systems which will allow engineers and biologists respectively to advanced the interdisciplinary links between their subject areas and recent advances in mathematics. These programmes, and many others held in the institute, require powerful modern computing resources to enable the modelling of complex physical systems, with appropriate visualisation tools. This proposal aims to provide such resources to long term visitors, to enable serious computational investigations to take place side-by-side with theoretical work in its programmes.
