Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is to complement the interdisciplinary activities in GR/N13807 relating to the surface engineering via a PhD studentship, the micro-abrasive fretting wear and fatigue intermetallics. It seeks to assess engineered intermetallics. The systems to be evaluated include rutile (TiO2) ceramic surface generated by oxidation thermochemical techniques and glow discharge plasma generated nitrided and carbo-nitrided surfaces. These technologies are wholly environmentally harmless and are foreseen to extend the application of intermetallic components to dynamically loaded tribological systems.
