Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose a new co-ordination approach to the synthesis of multimetal, multiporphyrin arrays. This will employ metalloporphyrin monomers which are themselves ligands for different metalloporphyrins: all building blocks will be complementary in co-ordination chemistry and geometry, allowing the unambiguous and quantitative build-up of heterometallic systems in one synthetic step from monomers. These arrays should possess vectorial photophysical and electrochemical gradients which may be of interest in devices. The same co-ordination approach should yield new large species with cavities in short synthetic sequences. This approach is complementary to the long sequences which lead to all-covalent porphyrin aligomers and dendrimers, and can also be combined with the covalent route.
