Summary on Grant Application Form |
Large grain (RE)BCO (where RE = rare earth) is emerging rapidly as a candidate for application in both low and high field engineering devices. Twelve European laboratories are actively in the processing of this material for both fundamental studies and the development of applications. Collaboration between theses laboratories do date has been limited to a small number of BRITE-EURAM funded projects which are necessarily selective and do not involve more than one or tow laboratories. This contrasts starkly with the situation in Japan and the USA where information between the major laboratories is exchanged freely on a larger, more organised scale. It is proposed to hold 2 one-day meetings per year for a three year period at which representatives of the labs involved describe their latest research and discuss collaboration in an open and small group forum. Each meeting will be held at a different participating institute and will include a laboratory tour. The minutes, future business and general activity of the Forum will be disseminated mainly via a Web page constructed specifically for this purpose. It is envisaged that the Forum will increase the effectiveness of European research in this field, reduce duplication and increase competitiveness with non-European countries.
