Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the proposed research is to investigate the potential of chiral chelating N-heterocyclic carbenes as ancillary ligands for transition metal mediated asymmetric catalysis. Initially examples of chiral N-heterocyclic carbeans will be prepared using existing or modified organic synthetic methodology. Transition metal complexes of these chiral ligrands will then subsequently be synthesised using methods developed from my previous work in this area. To demonstrate in principle the potential of this class of complex a select number of asymmetric catalytic reactions will be screened.
