Summary on Grant Application Form
The immediate focus of attention for the instrument purchase will be the enhancement of activity and capability in grating technology. The fast real time oscilloscope will facilitate the monitoring of a periodic output from demonstrators e.g. random generators, parity counters etc.The surface specific interactions and rapidly decreasing device dimensions of magnetic recording systems and plasma processed semi conductors demand analytical facilities with very high spatial resolution. The facilities for scanning probe microscopy (SPM) requested will provide state of the art capacity. Finally, the scanning reference electrode system will enable work of commercial and economic importance on corrosion to progress. All equipment has been carefully selected to ensure synergy with Research Groups/Institutes across the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
