Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is to enable the purchase of a state-of-the-art microwave synthesiser that would be the first of its kind within the UK. The requested equipment would allow our considerable expertise in the area of microwave chemistry to be further developed in the future within our group's many research programmes. These cover a diverse range of syntheses and reaction techniques. We constantly require access to the very best equipment and new technology if our science is to continue to progress at an internationally competitive level. Our present areas of research include:* Total synthesis of Biologically Active Natural Products* New Polymer Supported Reagents for multi-step Synthesis.* A New C-Glycosidation Procedure via Anomeric Heteroatom to Carbon Rearrangements to Tetrahydropyranyl Ethers.* Synthesis of Complex Carbohydrates* Asymmetric Induction using (-Allytricarbonyliron Lactone ComplexesWe would propose to make the requested equipment, and our experience in using it, available for use by other institutions within the academic community. We believe that the free movement of ideas will produce an environment of increased creativity and awareness of latest available equipment.
